Miyeon (미연), also known as Cho Mi Yeon (조미연), is a South Korean singer under CUBE Entertainment. She is the main vocalist and visual of the South Korean girl group I-dle. She is the oldest member.
She made her solo debut on April 27, 2022 with the mini album MY.
Early life[]
Cho Miyeon was born on January 31, 1997. Miyeon showed a strong interest in singing since she was a child. Her love for music was inspired by her father. Miyeon's parents soon recognized her passion and sent her to music schools to learn various skills, such as violin, guitar, and piano.[1]
Career[]
Pre-debut[]
In 2010, Miyeon became a YG Entertainment trainee. She was supposed to debut as a member of BLACKPINK's final lineup, however, her debut was thwarted and she left the company.
According to Miyeon, life outside the company was difficult for her since she spent all of her childhood as a trainee, so she went on a vacation to Japan and took some time to look back on herself. Later, she attended a vocal academy and took MIDI classes and became interested in music composition and production. During time at the vocal academy, she received a recommendation to audition for Cube Entertainment.[2] Miyeon spent about one year as a trainee before debuting with (G)I-DLE.
2018-2019: Debut with (G)I-DLE and collaborations[]

On April 8, 2018, Miyeon was revealed as the second member of (G)I-DLE.[3] The group officially debuted on May 2 with their first mini album I am.
On October 26, 2018, it was confirmed that Miyeon would perform at the League of Legends World Finals Opening Ceremony 2018, along with Soyeon, Madison Beer and Jaira Burns. The four singers provided vocals for the virtual K-pop girl group K/DA, with Miyeon voicing Ahri.[4]
In 2019, Miyeon collaborated with Hangzoo with the song "Cart" as part of Amoeba Culture X Devine Channel Code Share Project.[5]
2020–2021: King of Mask Singer, Replay and acting debut[]

On March 1, Miyeon appeared on the show King of Mask Singer. As the masked singer 'Boiled Egg', she sang "Goodbye Sadness, Hello Happiness", by Yoon Mi Rae. It was her very first solo activity, and though she was nervous, she was able to showcase her mature voice.[6] Her vocal performance received a warm reception from both audience and panels. Miyeon's voice was described as smokey, but soulful.[7] Also that year, Miyeon sang again as Ahri on two songs from K/DA's EP, ALL OUT
In September 2020, it was announced that Miyeon would make her acting debut in the web drama Replay, where she was cast as the lead alongside SF9's Hwi Young.[8][9]
In February 2021, she joined M Countdown's MC lineup. Her first broadcast as an MC was on February 18.[10] She became the first female MC on the program in 9 years.
2022: Solo debut with My, first win[]

On April 6, Newsen reported that Miyeon will be making her solo debut later in the month. Hours later, Cube confirmed the report.[11] Two days later, it was announced that Miyeon will be making her solo debut with her first mini album, MY, on April 27, 2022.[12] "Drive", the album's title track, won first place on The Show on May 3rd, awarding Miyeon her first solo music show win.[13]
2023:Street Woman Fighter 2 and would step down M Countdown[]
On September 5, 2023 Yuqi and Miyeon released the single "How to Twerk" as part of the soundtrack of the Mnet dance competition show Street Woman Fighter 2.[14]
On November 16, it was announced that Miyeon would step down as MC for M Countdown after serving for 1000 days, becoming the longest-serving MC on M Countdown.[15]
2024:"Sky Walking", "Swan" and renewal contract[]

On August 3, Miyeon performed the song "Sky Walking" during the 2024 (G)I-DLE World Tour 'i-Dol' tour. The music video for the song "Sky Walking" was released on December 19. Jeon Soyeon becomes chief director.
On October 15, Miyeon released the single "Swan (Prod. Czaer)" as part of the soundtrack of the Mnet dance competition show Stage Fighter (STF) Original Vol.2.5.
On November 30 during the MMA Awards, Soyeon said that all of the contestants have renewed their contracts. On December 2, Cube Entertainment officially announces the renewal of all I-dle members' contracts.[16]

On January 23, Miyeon opened her personal YouTube channel "미연zip MIYEON"[17]
On April 12, it was announced that Miyeon would be releasing a collaboration single, "Glow Up", with Chinese singer and actress Jike Junyi, which was released on April 16.
On October 15, 2025, it was reported that Miyeon will be making her comeback in November.[18]. On October 20, Miyeon released a teaser for second mini album MY, Lover which will be released on November 3.[19]

Vocal[]
Miyeon mainly sings the chorus with her refreshing voice. She has accurate pitch and solid vocalization that shines live, and boasts stable singing skills even. The powerful, impactful high notes are its main strength, but the unique vocals that handle each note delicately show their true value in the mid-low range parts. She often sings the chorus to enhance the mood of the song, but she can perform most parts naturally.[22]
Dance[]
Because it has long arms, it cannot be said that the dance is unconditionally smooth. Since the choreography was not made considering Miyeon's long arms, it seems that she relaxed and danced softly. However, if you see that she is able to pinpoint the movements accurately and does not clutter up the dance, she has a talent for dancing, and if she dances a choreography that suits his physical condition and dance line, her skills will be revealed.[23]
