(G)I-DLE (Hangul: (여자)아이들 (Yeoja Aideul); short for Girl-Idle) is a South Korean girl group formed by CUBE Entertainment. The group debuted on May 2, 2018 with their first mini album titled I am. (G)I-DLE was dubbed the "monster rookies" of 2018 and has been considered one of the most successful South Korean girl groups to not hail from the "big three" record labels.

The group currently consists of five members: Miyeon, Minnie, Soyeon, Yuqi and Shuhua. Originally a six-member group, Soojin departed from the group on August 14, 2021.

In an interview with The Star, group leader Soyeon revealed that the name "Idle" (아이들) came to her when she was composing "Idle Song", her second digital single. She suggested it to Cube Entertainment, and the name was finalized after undergoing internal competition.[1][2] However, the name received mixed reactions in South Korea and internationally since "아이들" (aideul) means "children", and "idle" in English refers to someone who avoids work.[3][4] Accordingly, the group was renamed (G)I-dle, with the "I" standing for individuality, the hyphen showing that the name has been divided into two parts, and "Dle" (deul) as the plural form of "I" in Korean to indicate a group of six different personalities gathering together.[5][6]

    • Soojin is seen in the music videos for "Jelly" and "Idle Song" as the girl wearing a white fox mask.
    • The music video of "Idle Song" hinted at the origins of the (G)I-DLE members before their reveal, using a globe with indicators of their birth places and a radio fixed on "450" (for April 5, their reveal date).
  • Miyeon is a former YG Entertainment trainee who was allegedly supposed to debut with BLACKPINK.
  • Soojin was originally supposed to be a member of the then-upcoming South Korean girl group VIVIDIVA.
